700 motor 😮 crazy thieves know what is good😅
are Hambini BB instructions hand-written in red pen by a 5 year-old?
Another great timely vid dude awesome content 😊 Pete 🚴🏻😊👍
There are no excuses for getting BB bores wrong. Lots of reasons though. The first one is production methods, where carbon layups are cured in a haphazard manner. The second is finishing, where a precision line boring machine isn’t used after curing and stabilization… the bores are cured around some kind of casting dowel that is simply knocked out. Job done. LOL. The third is priming and painting… high mass primers are used to hide rough tubes etc. These get into BB bores, along with base and clear coats. The selling point is carbon. People think that what follows is aerospace manufacturing. It isn’t, but the prices come damned close. The only way to beat the system is to buy a frame based on a detailed spec sheet that shows dimensions and tolerances. Before accepting the product, go over it with a magnifying glass, fibre optic camera, and bore gauges. If it doesn’t meet spec, refuse to accept it.
great work guys, this is a tough one if the bike was cosmetically in good condition it might have been worth it but this time it was borderline probably not worth doing. damn shame these big boy companies don't like us repairing stuff and would rather we throw stuff away and upgrade all of the time
thank you... with so many brands and different standars, sometimes working at the workshop is kind of guerrilla warfare... thank you for clarifying this concepts...
What about the underworld bike industry secret, gets nicknamed 'secret sauce', it's often white, technically a car industry product, cures press-fit bb creaks everytime without fail , and bb will remove no problem next time.
I build all my bikes myself, it's my hobby. But still cannot justify spending more than 1000 EUR on tools to ensure the bottom bracket/brake mounts are flush and aligned properly. This should be the manufacturers' job. Nowadays even an aluminium frameset costs north of 1500 EUR and for that much I would be expecting that at least all the interfaces with other components are built to spec. Apparently this is too much to ask. I also don't see many bike shops employing underpaid students bothering with checking that the frame is built to spec. They probably just want it out of the door ASAP. Hell, a few days ago i was working on a friend's BMC, and as soon as i pulled out the crank, the BB cup came along... These guys have no shame... From the manufacturing, to the QA, to whoever assembled the bike, nobody bothered addressing something this serious. These are the consequences of not having industry standards, nor accountability.
If I am reading this right, if a frame manufacturer shoots to make a BB86 to work with shimano or sram they should have it sized at 41 mm going no lower than 40.95 or higher than 41.07. However Campy is asking for even smaller hole, 40.97 or as small as 40.94 mm. That doesn’t seem to be fair to a frame mfg finding a nominal that works with 3 different ranges? What may be great for one could in fact be too large for another? Why aren’t all BB’s held to same range of tolerance? This could be so much better for all involved.
All of the loctite compounds take heat to release and using them is risky In my job of repairing pharmaceutical mixers we use Red to retain large bearings in aluminum or other metal housings and yo will cause all kinds of problems trying to remove one cold as housing materials will also be removed
Thanks Paul!
yes buy locked down garbage you own but don't really own.
Unfortunately its becoming more and more relevant to the issues with BB today. Mapdec explains in term's we can all understand.
Move that apostrophe from 'term's' to 'its'
Great explanation, thanks Paul. My experience over the last 15-20 years has been that I will only buy a frame now that has a bsa BB. Old school screw thread is simply the best ✌️
Be open to T47
I would prefer T-47 for DUB and 30mm spindles. BB386EVO is great but it never got enough widespread traction.
Sadly that alone would not guarantee that the openings are aligned, concentric, round, and properly faced. Especially if it's a metal shell bonded to a carbon frame. Probably a metal frame is more likely to have a good threaded BB if it has been machined in a single pass. For CF frames i think that pressfit works better.
It’s a sad state of affairs when manufacturers who charge thousands for carbon frames can’t make a round hole with a 41mm diameter.
Well - most “OEM’s” aren’t actually making their own frames. It’s been outsourced and my guess is that the QC aspect might be “assumed”.
Great content as always. Unrelated to this video, but do you know when the Time Scylon refresh is happening?
20 years ago this problem didn't exist with bbs.
20 years ago bikes had other problems.
20 years ago, they were bonding carbon to aluminum and it was a very sketchy process at that time.
Not entirely sure I agree, there was no such thing as pressfit and threads was the way to go...but not all frames were perfect at that time and rework was commonly needed
Can I ask you for a favor sir? Please make sure you keep this integrity... so much of the youtube scene is just a paid advertisement..
There’s many things you can say about Bosch, and many have merit. But at the same time, the customer also needs to service their motor. You can’t run a bike into ground and then act surprised when it dies. However, Bosch should make these fixes possible because these customers do exist! Great job, mate. Love this channel
your work is beautiful, that's great🍋
your videos are crazy, you put your heart in here💪💪
your videos are really great, the quality is increasing every time❣️❣️❣️
Boob bot
You what i dislike most about looking at bikes is that a lot of times you can get the whole bike with aero wheels and integrated handlebars for 4.5k to 5k and then the frameset somehow is 4.6k
Short version - this bike had a quote saying it had £975 worth of work that needed doing to it. We checked, and it needed doing. We used ‘charity’, free parts and bodges to undercut our competitor, who we admit had quoted fairly. And people wonder why the cycling industry is a race to the bottom at the moment… This is why your competitor now charges £25 for a quote: because he knows that if he does a professional job, they can bring it to you for a bodge.
Can you help me out and tell me what drop the back wheel is on a Carrera is it 135 or 150 thanks
Good vid. Wera , Knipex and Park tools are the best if you can afford, but will last a long time.
Tip for tork wrenches: Unwind after use! Taking the pressure off of the spring will keep it calibrated longer.
Hey Paul. Great videos. So helpful. I have the dreaded PF86 SRAM Dub combination with newish force D2 groupset. What crank options would work with rest of groupset to change to? Something like the force or red d1 gxp? Are there other brands that are an option? Many thanks.
I thought I might be facing into a similar situation recently, emtb decided to just die whilst out on a ride.....wouldn't fire back up or anything. Driving hope with the POS in my boot, all sorts of thoughts started going through my head. I get home and the bloody thing turns on. I couldn't replicate the issue but had two damaged cables, so ordered and replaced those.....whilst ordering I thought I would look at the prices of the display and motor (Shimano EP8) with a new display coming in at £150+ and "new" motor from GErmany at almost £600.....I came to the conclusion that if I had to replace the motor I'd probably just bring forward the next bike purchase. (To my wife disgust).
I have virtually the same bike. I don't use it for mountain track work nor di I use it in the wet and 5 years on and without a service it's running fantastic. Despite this, I am a little shocked at how easily it seems water can enter the motor casing. I thought these were pretty much sealed. I also agree with other comments hare that Bosch should start listing and supplying all these motor parts.
Very good; was the rear tyre's direction correct...
Hi, do you remember what happened to UK brand Windy Milla? They used to make custom carbon bikes in The UK. However, all their social media accounts are gone. So is their official website. What happened?
Goodyear have very bad rolling resistance test results. 12.8W at 6 bar vs 7.5 at same pressure for Conti GP5000
Maybe. But they do grip well, consistently across their lifespan.
1:31 3k GBP is bonkers for what it is! 3k USD gets one a Madone SL. Not SLR, just the SL!
so. where were the bikes?
time to learn electronics so you can repair something more than just replace stuff, all ebike owners better do some studying on electronics
I would love to know if there is a way to learn PCB testing a one repair. I don’t even know where to start.
@@Mapdec well if the chips are shorter it would be a hard fix... but tings like resistors and capacitors and be removed by desoldering, and can be tested with a multimeter, even the transistors can be tested for a short.... which can probably be replaced easy... but since water has been inside the motor... a lot of components could have shorted, which would mean many stuff would need to be replaced, my dad has fixed his ebike controller without much struggle, i dont know how, but it must of been just one small issue somewhere
the jersey tan go HARD!
Yep
dont buy bosch, simple, buy a brand that sells parts
Hey Paul! What are your thoughts on new Basso Astra geometry? It has super high stack and short reach, more aggressive angles. Mainly comparing it to Look 765 optimum 2, since i'm trying to decide which frame to go for ultimate comfort :)
I guess that depends on if you find high and short comfortable. Although this fit might alive hip flexors it also loads weight onto your bum and can add tension to shoulders. Not to mention loosing glute efficiency.
In another video this guy whinges about tight fitting tires that need a lever to be installed onto the rim. Shouldn't mechanics like tires that are reliably attached to the rim and not complain that a tool is needed "gasp".
Tyres and rims should be made to spec. If you can’t remove it roadside it’s useless. If it blows off, it’s dangerous
I'm surprised China (who seem to copy everything) haven't already tapped into the replacement motor pcb market. There must be tons of dead motors out there that could be back in service with just a pcb swap out.
Damn this guy gets on a very tall high-horse once in a while... patting himself on the back and speaking as if he's the definitive source.
Depends on the subject
Greta video and new subscriber here :)
900 of it labour charge !! Possibly
They look beaten up for several thousends of km. Phatetic customers want new ones for free
Would Cervelo pay the shop for this work, assuming original owner and a valid warranty?
Rule 1 don’t buy a Bosch
Onya. I hope you & your company do well. Honest tradies are becoming hard to find. Noel, from Australia
In conclusion, don’t get a bike with a Bosch motors.
Looks very satisfying to ride. Have a great time.
